We gave our trust, we gave our amana, we gave our khilapha – Allah is saying, to human beings. We gave it to heavens and hearth and they said, "no, Ya Rabb, we cannot carry it, it is too much.” We offered it to human beings and they said, “Yes,” we took it and run away. What did Allah describe us? Innahu kaana dhalooman jahoola - Oppressors and ignorant. We are oppressors and ignorant. Because we are tyrants to ourselves, we destroyed ourself. Because we thought we are something.

Look Iblees, Iblees didn’t leave one hand in heavens and in earth without doing a sajda to Allah swt. Every space of a hand. One hand, 2 hands, 3 hands, 4 hands, 5 hands, 6 hands. How many? In every hand he made one sajda. Allah gave him long life, from when Allah created him before creation of Adam, up to Judgment Day, Iblees has life. When he was in paradise before Adam and when Adam was created before he created him, he didn’t leave one hand without sajda. How much work he has and it was only one mistake. And it was one moment only. It was not a continuous one even. Allah said, "Make sajda and in his heart what happened, he refused. Why? Pride. Everyone says “pride.” And Holy Qur'an says “pride.” [He said:] “You created me from fire, you created him from mud, from clay, from soil, whatever. How am I going to make sajda to him? I am better than him.”

The reality of the secret of this verse is that he was saying, “How can I make sajda to other than you? I cannot. I cannot accept it.”

For example, you, Look someone comes to you and Sultan, Mawlana gave you something and you are becoming a big shaykh, turban, I am [with] turban, and look, his turban is bigger than my turban. Like you have been asked an order to bow to someone who is nothing to you. You feel it is “How am I going to listen to that person. I listen to my sultan.”

If now I tell you listen to him, sit with him and listen to him. I will tell you no, I cannot accept it. “I sit with my sultan and listen to my sultan. How am I going to listen to him?”

Grandshaykh after his seclusion of five years, I am jumping to another subject here, Grandshaykh with his seclusions he was counting the days when he finished his seclusion he was counting the days when he will go and see his shaykh and he is in the cave 5 years with olives and dates. He sent him a message at the last moment. He said, "Don’t come to me, go listen to Muhammad Effendi.” Muhammad Effendi was the most crazy one in the village. Shaykh Sharafuddin Qaddasallahu Sirrahu said, "Sit with him and take suhbat from him.” He was after all these secrets coming to him for five years and he was ordered to go and sit with a majnoon, which means mentally sick, and go and sit with him and listen to his lectures. And Muhammad Effendi is so happy to have a student. And giving him lecture 24 hours a day, and not stopping. And giving lectures that are complete nonsense. And he said, "I am giving him respect as if he is my shaykh. I looked at him as if he is Shaykh Sharafuddin. If I look less than this then I will be kicked from tariqah.”

It is only one sentence, they very light to say it but very heavy on the scale; they take all the sins that day. So don’t forget so say, “SubhanAllah wa bihamdihi, praise be to Allah, SubhanAllah il-`adheem , praise be to the Greatest One, praise be to Allah, the Greater,” and repent “istaghfirullah.”

Alhamdulillah that Allah swt gave us the opportunity to come and visit you. What is the wisdom, no one knows. Allah swt knows, the Prophet (s) knows and our shuyukh and Mawlana Shaykh knows.

I am not pretending to be a shaykh, first of all. I am not asking anyone to call me a shaykh and I am the worst between you, those who are present here. I am not claiming khalifa or deputy or anything. I am like you, I like to be a sheep, not to be a shepherd. Sheep never going to be asked anything. Shepherd is going to be asked everything. Those who like to be shepherds, let them be.

Let us take that away from our hearts and be a mirror to each other – to be looking at each other in equality. You gave lectures, tons of lectures, thousands of lectures, no benefit. If there, if someone wants the benefit, one lecture is enough for everyone to be saved and to go to Paradise, one is enough. But we keep saying, more and more, more and more and this is the way that Allah swt has created us. Because he said in Holy Qur’an:

وَذَكِّرْفَإِنَّ الذِّكْرَى تَنفَعُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Wa dhakkir fa inna adh-dhikra tanfa`u ’l-mu’mineena

But teach (thy Message) for teaching benefits the Believers. Surat adh-Dhaariyat [51:55]

Remind them because when they are reminded they get benefit. It means when we are reminded we get benefit.

When Grandshaykh was asked to carry the responsibility of khilafah, when Shaykh Sharafuddin Qaddasallahu Sirrahu, may Allah bless his soul, grand Grandshaykh, before he left dunya, he said to Grandshaykh Abdullah al-Faiz Daghestani Qaddasallahu Sirrahu, “I am asking you and giving you the responsibility to be my successor. Whatever the Prophet (s) gave to me I am giving to you, to follow and to take forward the followers, the mureeds.”

Don’t think that I am better than you. No way. You, everyone of us must think he is the worst one, because if he will give a little bit of tazkiyyah, uplifting his ego, one moment, shaytan will trick him. Always you have to cut down your ego. “O my ego you are nothing. Don’t think you know something you are speaking you are speaking because they ask you to speak. Not because you know something. Because they are humble, they ask you to speak. If they are not humble they don’t ask you to speak. That means they are better than you.

When Shaykh Sharafuddin Qaddasallahu Sirrahu… I am saying this because we have to know our limits. We must not pretend to be something. the Prophet (s), Allah gave him all kinds of knowledges and he made him the mirror of all His Beautiful Names and Attributes and He made him the door to His heavens and He dressed him with ma`rifatullah the knowledge of his Lord and He brought him to “two bows length of an arrow” and still he said, “O Allah don’t leave me to my ego for the blink of an eye.” With all these knowledges he said, “I am nothing, Ya Rabbee. I am worried.”

If that is the Prophet (s) who is Sahib jawaami` al-kalimi [owner of the Comprehensive Word] and who is Owner of all different knowledges and all different languages of heavens and earth and he is saying, “O Allah don’t leave me to my ego for the blink of an eye… or else I will go to a bad ending” what about us?

So when Shaykh Sharafuddin Qaddasallahu Sirrahu said to Grandshaykh Qaddasallahu Sirrahu, “You carry the responsibility, I am leaving.”

Why did Shaykh Sharafuddin Qaddasallahu Sirrahu died so soon, so young? Because he was extracting from Surat al-An`am all secrets and all the names and all personalities of all awliyaullah who are coming in the time of Mahdi Alayhissalam. It was very heavy on his heart to extract these secrets from Surat al-An`am. We will not go into this subject.

He said, “I am giving you the authority.” What did he say? “I don’t want it.” If our shaykh says to us now, “I am giving you calipha what do we do?” We take it and we run. Before he changes his mind. [everyone laughs] If Mawlana Shaykh Nazim calls you now and says, “You are my best one, I am going to give you the khilapha.” “O my shaykh , yes, yes!” Take it and run.

When the Shaykh orders then listen. If you do less then you will be kicked out.

So today who will listen to who? “Who is caliph? He is mureed, I am mureed, He is shaykh, I am shaykh.” Believe me, no one of us reached to be a mureed yet. There is no mureed. I won’t explain this but that needs long explanation.

So he said, “I am choosing you to be successor.” ”I don’t want.” What you don’t want. Shaykh is saying and you don’t want. He said, “Ya Sayyidee.” He said, “This is coming from the Prophet (s), and you are saying ‘I don’t want it’?” Ya Sayyidee, with all my respect I cannot carry that.” So Shaykh Sharafuddin Qaddasallahu Sirrahu was not feeling good. He came to the Prophet (s) in the association of awliyaullah and said to the Prophet (s) “this is what is happening.” The Prophet (s) said, “Ask him why.”

He came back after Fajr, and said, “Ya waladee, why you don’t want?” He said, “Ya sayyidee what is the benefit if I give a lecture and they don’t listen and they don’t act on what I am saying? It is a waste of time for me and wasting their time.” He said, ” sadaqta it is true.” Is it not? “So what do you want then?” He said, “I want something simple. Give it to me then I will accept.” “What is it?” “I want from the Prophet (s) and I want from you, if anyone comes and sits with me, and from whatever level I speak and what kind of wali I mention his name, and what he does, I want these people who are listening to be raised up immediately to the level of that wali. Anyone sitting with me I want him to be raised to my level that I am sitting. If you accept, I accept.”

So Shaykh Sharafuddin Qaddasallahu Sirrahu cannot accept that. He cannot accept directly. That means only by listening and sitting you will be lifted to that level of knowledge of that wali tat is mentioned, and that level of power. Because he knows anyone sits it goes in one ear and comes out the other ear. No one acts on anything. Is it not? It is not an amusement. Amusement, go to the movie, or to roller skaters, amusement areas. That is it. Spend one hour, two hours, eat candies, drink water and then y`Allah. No, he wants that association to be raised so that whatever he is speaking, it has to be raised up to that level. As the association now they all have to be raised to the level of Mawlana Shaykh Sharafuddin and Grandshaykh and Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, because they have that secret. Not because of us, no we don’t have anything. But because we have been authorized on their behalf, so this majlis, this association is their association. This association is Mawlana Shaykh Nazim’s association. He is the one that is responsible. We have no rights to say “We are the shaykh; I am your shaykh.” No right. If we say “I am your shaykh” or anyone says, “I am your shaykh.” Or anyone thinks that he took baya`…

Many people they come and say “I took baya` from you.” No, no, not that is incorrect. If you think you took baya` from me you lost. We always have to tell them always, the baya`, we are only like a bridge, we are only like a car that takes you to your destiny, your your goal, and leave you there. We are only a vehicle to take you to the presence of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim. That is it. When you take baya`, your baya` is with him. Don’t ever say, “I took baya` to `Ali and `Ali is my shaykh.” Many people are falling into this problem. That is why sickness is spreading everywhere among Naqshbandis and representatives of Mawlana Shaykh. Because after a while they consider they are the shaykh. They don’t listen to anyone except if their “shaykh” is present. They don’t move except by permission of their so-called shaykh. That is a big problem.

So Shaykh Sharafuddin said, “O my son I will ask.” So that night Shaykh Sharafuddin in the Diwan al-Awliya asked the Prophet (s) and the Prophet (s) said, “I am accepting. He said, “no one asked that from all awliyaullah except your son. Not that particular request to uplift the follower. They know we cannot do anything we are under our ego.

If the Prophet (s) is asking, “O Allah don’t leave me to my ego. So how is Grandshaykh going to accept.

So Shaykh Sharafuddin was going to pass away and before passing away he called Grandshaykh and said to him, I am passing away after three days and he took the will and gave to him and said, “you are authorized to continue the order of tariqah and the wazaa’if of tariqah. …he was said because he was his uncle, his mother’s brother, and he was the shaykh that raised him. And when he passed away and they were washing him, and when Grandshaykh and other mureed s were washing him, all the mureeds were coming to have a hand in it because it is barakah. So Shaykh Sharafuddin was laying down, he left dunya, he is deceased, and his hands were on the bed like that you know they fall down. As soon as they begin to wash him then his right hand was raised and turned, look at my hand, closed and became like a cup. And then as they are washing, people coming and drinking, baraka of that water. When everyone passed and took some of that water and then his hand came back down. That is a miracle that happened after his death, when they are washing him. See how awliyaullah how they are living.

I think I mentioned that it in the Naqshbandi Sufi Way book.

So they washed him, Mawlana Grandshaykh prayed on him and buried him and Grandshaykh came back and took the will and tear it and went to the river and threw it in the river.

Anyone will do that? He said, “What is the benefit? To please my ego?”

Today they tell you “We need from you ijaza.” What ijaza, who are you to give ijaza? On what responsibility are you giving ijaza.

We are Naqshbandis we have to learn from what happened before with your shuyukh. So Grandshaykh said, “What I have to tell people I am the calipha in order to my ego to become bigger. They like me, they like me, I am not interested.” So after Shaykh Sharafuddin no one knew who is the calipha except a very few. He was the calipha and he tore it. Threw it away. Look he doesn’t want to please his ego. Now what we do, we frame it, make copies and distribute so people come and kiss our hands. That is what is happening.

When Grandshaykh passed away, before he passed away by one week, he wrote his will. Look how it works. This is to learn – only for us to learn. Mention these to learn. But he said, “I am leaving.” We were young and we were crazy we cannot accept that Mawlana will leave this dunya. I am not going to disclose everything but take some of these things because there is no time.

So he wrote his will and he gave it to us, he said, “one you put in my grave; one you show it to people to know who is after me and whom I appointed.”

We took the will, the will was there and there were five people at that time. After one week he passed – he left dunya. So no one saw the will, and that day when we were burying him, Mawlana Shaykh Nazim was in Cyprus. He was not there. So we tried to reach him, to send messages. At that time in the 70’s it was very difficult to reach by phone or you want to send a telegram, it was not like now.

So in any case all these `ulama of Sham, scholars of Damascus, like Grandshaykh when the janaaza when Grandshaykh passed away was 20,000, 30,000 people and all these scholars coming and they want to bury and to go. It is Ramadan. It is Dhuhr time they want to bury and go. All of them standing in line because when you bury what do you do? So all of them went inside the mosque, because we refused to bury him in the cemetery, we went to the haffaar al-quboor, gravedigger and said to him and said to him we need to open a grave in the masjid, in the maqam. So he said, “no, …we cannot do that.” We said, “ok, you dig and don’t say anything, then go and dig one in the cemetery. So begin with that one, and everyone knows it is that one, and at the last moment we will do it.” He said, “No problem.” He loves Mawlana Shaykh.

So all these `ulama they are standing in line at the cemetery and the coffin stayed at that masjid. They prayed and then came to the cemetery to bury him. And we said, me and my brother, two of us, crazy ones at that time. We said, “Anyone likes to stay, stay, and anyone like to go, go. We are not going to bury him until Mawlana Shaykh Nazim comes.” Eh, Mawlana in Cyprus.

At that moment, someone out of the blue, his name is Nazeer Hisham – he passed away recently may Allah bless his soul, – he came and said…. How he came? And he said, “Mawlana Shaykh Nazim called; and he is on his way, coming.”

So these `ulama got angry and said, “we are going.” They shaking hands with us and they left. And we were waiting and waiting.

That man didn’t say how he received from Mawlana Shaykh a call. Might be Grandshaykh putting on his tongue or Mawlana Shaykh put it on his tongue.

And it reached Maghrib time and adhaan being called, it is Ramadan, and the coffin still there, not buried yet. And Mawlana was coming; coming up the stairs.

In any case, at that time, we went together and he buried him and we came out. We said, “Mawlana we have the will.” We prayed Maghrib, we broke fast and prayed and then… Next day Mawlana said, “I am going back.” So then there was no direct flight from Syria. You have to go back to Beirut. So we went with him and he stayed in our house in Beirut and he was sitting. We said, “Do you want to see the will?” He said, “Not now, not now.” Next day he was tired he was crying. He said, “Bring the will.” We brought the will he kissed it and he said, “Put it back in the safe box.” So we put it in my father’s safe box. No one can get in that one, you need dynamite to open it. And we were so worried that no one can get to that will, to lock it.

So we slept that day, next day Mawlana Shaykh going back to Cyprus. Went to the airport and the key with us. My uncle who is head of scholars of Lebanon, said, “I want to see the will.” So we said ok, we went to the safebox to get the will to bring my uncle to see it, we opened the safebox, and, no more will. No one saw that will except 4, 5 people. He didn’t want. He didn’t say, “give it to me,” make a frame and hang it. Like today if we have a paper quickly we go and hang it. If it has signature of Mawlana Shaykh we hang it.

So awliyaullah always they are worried to make themselves higher than the others. Because they want. .. Respect comes from heavens they are not waiting respect from human being. Because respect from human being is good but they don’t want to trick their egos, they want first heaven to be accepting them. They want Allah swt to be accepting them.

Imagine Iblees, Allah cursed him, the one who did not leave one place he didn’t make sajda. For one disobedience Allah cursed him. How many disobediences a day we are doing? And we think we are this, I don’t want to say; we think we are high level awliyaullah.

So we have to feel we are the worst. I will end with this story.

Sayyidina Abdul Khaliq al-Ghujdawani Qaddasallahu Sirrahu, famous as the head of Khatm al-Khwajagan. Because of him, Khatm al-Khwajagan begin. He has thousands of students in his time. You know how he makes dhikr? He has a well? You know the well. He goes in the well until he reaches the water, goes under the water, make dhikr quickly and then go up and breath. And the water is freezing. It is very cold, in Merv, near Bukhara today. Why? Because Shaytan cannot come in the water. Jinn cannot go in water because they will be burned immediately, water will put them down. So he goes in there to make sure his dhikr is accepted, he goes in the water, take a big breath, and go in the water, make dhikr for half a minute. He goes in the water, makes sure to take a big breath, then go down and make dhikr. So all night he is doing that, going up and going down to make dhikr. Awliyaullah they are struggling like this against their ego, not like us, we are playing.

We are attending dhikr every week and we are saying “it is too much.” We are coming and attending and eating chocolates.

So one of the mureeds. One day they prayed `Isha all the mureeds with Sayyidina Abdul Khaliq al-Ghujdawani Qaddasallahu Sirrahu they left he masjid, except one of the mureeds he was there sitting, because they locked the masjid and he was inside. And he was speaking to himself: “O stupid person. Your Shaykh asked you to do this awraad and you did it one day and you didn’t do it another day. Or you did them with your ego and it is not accepted. Then in order not to make you contaminate your brothers and sisters he ordered you to cut wood in the forest. And you were not able to cut the wood, you come in evening with one wood or two wood for fire, it is not enough. And Shaykh ordered you to look after his sheep because all shuyukh they have sheep to eat. And you look after sheep you destroy his flock. Why did you destroy his flock? Because when first of Rajab comes you say, “O, Rajab came, you slaughtered 1, 2, 3 sheep – without asking your shaykh. Then 27th Rajab comes you go and slaughter some more without asking your shaykh. 15th, nisf-Sha`ban comes you slaughter 15 more. Eid comes, slaughter; hajj comes, Eid al-Adha comes, slaughter. Muharram comes, Ashura comes, Mawlid an-Nabi (s) comes and you slaughter. You finished your shaykh’s sheep stock in one year. So you are the worst of the worst.”

Look at that, awliyaullah look at when it comes the moment of giving the trust they look at that. He said, “I am swearing an oath that I am worse than Iblees.” Who can say that? Who is the worst Allah cursed in this world? Iblees. He is telling this to his ego, and he has the right to say whatever he likes, he is not making kufr. He said, “You, my ego, is worse than Iblees. And if I am not saying the truth, my ego, then my wife is divorced from me!”

That is to confirm 100% that he is in satisfaction 100% with what he is saying, else he will not say “my wife will be divorced from me.” Else it will be haraam between him and his wife.

Then he heard his Shaykh Abdul Khaliq al-Ghujdawani Qaddasallahu Sirrahu, his shaykh was hiding behind the pillar and he heard him and he was laughing, “hahaha.” He said, “O my Shaykh you are here?” “Of course I am here.” He came and said, “sit like this.” And so Sayyidina Abdul Khaliq al-Ghujdawani Qaddasallahu Sirrahu was sitting on his knees and the mureed was sitting on his knees. And he said, “look into my heart.” So the mureed was looking and Sayyidina Abdul Khaliq al-Ghujdawani Qaddasallahu Sirrahu with his right finger was turning it and shooting it, shooting to his heart with his finger. This is how awliyaullah work. They give they give. He gave to this heart six powers. Six realities. He opened them. Because in every human being heart these six realities are there but they are scrambled. They are coded. You need to decode them. You need remote control. So he was using his finger as remote control. Haqiqat al-jazbah, Haqiqat al-fayd, Haqiqat at-tawajjuh, Haqiqat at-tawassul, Haqiqat al-irshad, Haqiqat at-tayy. These six powers, he decoded them back and opened them to him. As soon as he opened these six realities to him he was lighter than a bird and he was flying, he was raised up to the ceiling of the dome hitting his head and coming back down. And he was going up and down. And he said to his shaykh, “In tariqah is there this kind of miracles?” He said, “This the beginning.” He gave him Haqiqat al-jazbah, the reality of attraction. That means you can attract someone to you with just looking at him, without doing anything to him, that light attracts him to you. Haqiqat al-jazbah, Haqiqat al-fayd, Haqiqat at-tawajjuh, Haqiqat at-tawassul, Haqiqat al-irshad, Haqiqat at-tayy.

All these six realities, I explained them I am not going to explain now, it is in the heart of every individual. But it needs to be decoded. It means the Shaykh has to give you the remote control. When will he give you the remote control when you become like that mureed. It is not simple and it is not easy. I will tell you one day how Grandshaykh gave the secret to Mawlana Shaykh Nazim Qaddasallahu Sirrahu. Because of what, because of what he said, he gave him the trust. It was in Madinat al-munawwara. So the important of what I want to say is that the fame is for our sultan. The honor is for our Sultan; the dignity is for our Sultan. We have to see ourselves in need of everyone sitting here we are in need to kiss their hand and their feet. Why? Because if they are not here to whom are you going to speak? You are in need of whom? You are in need of them. They are not in need of you. You are in need of everyone. Since you are in need of everyone you have to go and say think you. “Who thanks Allah’s servants is thanking Allah.” You cannot say “Ya Rabbee shukran lak, thank you, Ya Rabb,” and not thank His servants. That is hadith of the Prophet (s). man shakr al-khalq shakrallah. Whoever thanks Allah’s servants is thanking Allah. And Allah said in Holy Qur’an:

وَإِذْ تَأَذَّنَ رَبُّكُمْ لَئِنشَكَرْتُمْ

“wa la’in shakartum la-azeedanakum – If ye are grateful, I will add more (favours) unto you;”

So we are thanking Allah that he made us with Mawlana Shaykh Nazim Qaddasallahu Sirrahu. Your shaykh is Mawlana Shaykh Nazim Qaddasallahu Sirrahu. Your baya` has to be to Shaykh Nazim Qaddasallahu Sirrahu; your love has to be to Shaykh Nazim Qaddasallahu Sirrahu; if you focus on someone else you are reducing your love. That is a big problem. There is no time now to explain it now, but when Shaykh Sharafuddin was explaining to Grandshaykh the power of Shah Naqshband Qaddasallahu Sirrahu, Grandshaykh, some of his love went to Shah Naqshband Qaddasallahu Sirrahu. And he was told by Shaykh Sharafuddin Qaddasallahu Sirrahu, “don’t do that.” And Shah Naqshband Qaddasallahu Sirrahu appeared to him at that time, and taught him how to have love to his Shaykh. And you can check it on sufilive.com we have over one thousand three hundred lectures there. So all of them live. I cannot give everything in one session. But check there. May Allah keep us all together under the banner of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim Qaddasallahu Sirrahu.

Don’t think that if you call yourself or someone calls you a representative you are a wali. Wilayah is something different, wilaya is beyond even imagination. A wali is not so cheap to be given. so how to be a wali, since it is difficult we want to know how to be a wali. A wali is that one who left his life completely and his desires. And the one that performed the 500 obligations that we spoke about in the previous session and left the 800 forbiddens that we spoke about yesterday.

A wali is that one who left all these and never asked to be something. He never asked to be a shaykh; he never asked to be someone of fame; he never asked to be someone that people run to him. He wants to be a person normal, humble person, that nothing of this dunya can play with him. So always I used ot hear from Grandshaykh and this is from notes of Grandshaykh, as I said yesterday it was 1393. How many years ago? 30 years ago, more than 30 years ago.

He used to say to me and my brother and those who were listening, “O my son you want this tariqah. I will give you the key for that. But it has the price. “ all of us want to know the price, we would run for it. he said, “to drop anger. You must not be angry from anyone. You msut drop anger from your heart.”

Whey people get angry? People get angry because their ego is so high it cannot accept the other. Prophet said, to Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq, “al-ghadabu kufran ya Aba Bakr – Ghadab, anger, is disbelief, O Abu Bakr.”

Ghadab is the tree, the trunk of all badness, of all evilness, of all bad characters. It is the tree of Shaytan that is within us that tries to kill us from within. That is why we said in previous session the most dangerous is the weeds. People go and pull the weeds from around the tree as the weeds when they grow kill the tree. Shariah, Islam is the message that the seal of messengers, the prophet brought to us in order to follow. But what are we doing? We are letting these devils, the effect of Shaytan like weeds, to take over that trunk to take over and kill that tree after.

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani | Friday, Feb 22, 2008 | Oakland, CA US

This is a continuation of yesterday, the previous session. First of all we have to say that alhamdulillahi rabbil-`alameen that he guided use to be at the door of his awliya, that he guided us to be at the door of his saints where Allah described them : awliyaee tahta qibaabee la ya`lamahum ghayree.

Awliyaullah very rarely to know them. They might behave very normal that people might, will never think that they are awliyaullah. There are a type of awliyaullah like that. There is another type which is … Allah did not ask them to hide their personality because they are needed in this life to be known for people to follow them. And those who are hiding are hiding themselves because it is their duty; they are under very high responsibility of trying to as much as they can polish the hearts of people through spiritual connections. So they are busy in that and they have been ordered to hide themselves because this is their job. So they are going to be between the Ummah and that is their job to be between the Ummah and you don’t know them and you don’t think they are awliyaullah. And the others who are between the Ummah are allowed to be known, they have a duty to guide the Ummah to their ways. Through their ways. We thank Allah that he guided us to the known ones and hidden ones and that he guided us to be with known ones and with the hidden ones. Not everyone can be with the known ones and hidden ones. Very few are with both.

We are thanking Allah swt that He made us all to be at the threshold of our Shaykh Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim Adil al-Haqqani who is connected to our Grandshaykh Mawlana Shaykh Abdullah al-Faiz ad-Daghestani. And everyone of us coming to this way or this order or this teaching is looking for something; looking to find himself or herself. What makes a person to come? Either they are in love with spirituality and they come and be attached to those who are connecting them to their shuyukh. Or they come to find themselves, they feel something is missing in them and they come to find what is missing.

And all the time when we were looking, when we were young I remember we were looking since childhood. Since I was 12 years of age. I was looking to find a wali, to find a saint. To find what I hear people speaking about, awliyaullah, awliyaullah, awliyaullah. To my mind awliya are those who do miracles. Later I find out that awliyaullah are those who can do miracles , those you can see and those which you cannot see. And later in my life I found the miracle best one is the ones that you see later in life, hidden and the ones that are apparent and most important is the miracle of knowledge. The knowledge they were bringing was higher than knowledge of `ulama and in my father’s house many `ulama were coming and we were happy t o mix with them and until we met with Grandshaykh and we met with Mawlana Shaykh.

Then we understood that to be a will is not something easy. You might be, as many people like to be called representatives of Mawlana Shaykh or deputies, they are free to call themselves what they want to call. You can be representative, deputy, shaykh, be! But to be a wali is something that is very difficult.

So Mawlana Shaykh and Grandshaykh said, “The most important step you want to step in tariqah is to drop ghadab.” And he said that, “He is relating a story that the Prophet one time told his Sahaba and Sayyidina `Umar was there and he was addressing directly to Sayyidina `Umar because Sayyidina `Umar has a very strong personality. He doesn’t accept anything wrong. He gets immediately sharp. Sayyidina `Ali is softer. Sayyidina `Umar is very strong. He said to him and I am quoting Grandshaykh: “Ya `Umar. Anyone of my Ummah my nation in the end of the days, (where the signs of the Last Days appeared which we are in it today; if we go and read Approach of Armageddon we see we are in the Last Days and most of the hadith of the Prophet he predicted came true, not came true but came through. And awliyaullah are expecting any moment a big change. He said, “Ya “Umar! In the end days that are coming, my nation are going to be rewarded more than people are rewarded now and Allah swt is going to raise their levels when they are going to drop from falling into the desires of Shaytan even for one sin, if they stop doing it for Allah’s sake, if they feel they can do that sin and they are going to do it and they stop for Allah’s love and for Prophet’s love they are going to be rewarded more than people are rewarded in these days.”

That means the tajallis, manifestations, of the name ar-Rahman are so huge that anyone who stops doing a sin will be rewarded with rewards that have never been rewarded before. Not that we will be better. Sahaba no one can attain their rank, sahaba are sahaba, no one can reach their ranks. But the rewards that are opened in the Last Days are much more than what is opened before. Because we are in days that sins are everywhere and when you stop yourself from going into desires of the ego it is as if you are doing the Jihad al-akbar. That is the great jihad the sahaba were giving their lives for it. Today when you leave one sin you will be rewarded like that.

“Today,” he said, and it was 1392, now we are in 1429. How many years? 36 years. He said “Allah opened a certain private special manifestation that he didn’t open it before, it has been opened now,” he said, “in order that anyone that will try to prohibit himself from falling into the traps of Shaytan will be rewarded as Jihad al-Akbar.”

Sayyidina Adam Alayhissalam did one sin, Iblees did one sin, and he was cursed. Sayyidina Adam Alayhissalam did one sin and was sent to earth and Iblees did one sin and was cursed. And the prophet said if you avoid doing one sin you will be raised up to heaven. Look at the difference. if you are able , o muslims, o tariqah people from falling into one sin you will be raised to heavens. How many sins are we facing a day? Ask yourself? Count them too many. Every move we are moving we are moving in sin. Hidden sin and not hidden.

That is why it is very difficult to keep our anger down because Shaytan is trying all his time to come through our ears to our mind to deviate you from the track that you are on Sirat al-mustaqeem trying to take you away and seeing how much you move away. And Grandshaykh said, ”If someone tries to protect himself for 40 days haalan fa`lan, which means he tried to stop himself from physically doing something and from spiritually doing something wrong, he will be given like a power to cut completely the tree of anger and the tree of forbiddens from its trunk. But you have to protect yourself 40 days from falling into the trap of Shaytan. That is why the awiyaullah order their followers 40 days of seclusion. In seclusion you are not with people, not with dunya, and you are in your room or cave and doing your seclusion. Today when you do seclusion where you do seclusion? They send you there is a from in this place in Madina or Makkah or in Sham Sharif, you do seclusion.

Before when awiyaullah were ordering their students to do seclusion it was either in caves where you be alone all the time and there jinn come and they will eat your legs at night. You don’t know how much you will be disturbed. You hear the wind coming hooo, and you might hear voices and you have to do seclusion there; no one there. They give you dry bread for 40 days and they give you water; it might be near a river or a mountain near a waterfall and eating bread, dry bread. How many voices you are going to hear there? Some they send their followers in precious times, to graves – dig a grave and then go into the seclusion there between dead people. Can you do that? 40 days. Next day you run away! Not next day. Two minutes. As soon as they drop you and go they see you following them back.

There is a cemetery near Mawlana Shaykh Nazim and there is cemetery near Grandshaykh’s house, in Cyprus near where Mawlana is living. I know one person who doesn’t sleep except in the cemetery. He has a grave and he has a tent and he sleeps there and it is around all the graves. Subhanallah he doesn’t get scared, he doesn’t fear anything, at night with the dead people. One might come from the grave.

Sayyida Nafisa at-Tahira one of the grandchildren of the Prophet, buried in Egypt. Imam Shafi`i used to come and study with her and learn from here. She digged her grave in her room. Every day she used to go in her grave and recite Qur’an so that the baraka of Qur’an will be in the grave so when she Is buried and find it. Did any one of us dig his grave and go there every day recite Qur’an there?

Remember this dunya is not going to last. Worms are going to eat you. They are as they are moving and eating, every cell they eat from your body, they are going to ask you where you wasted that cell. What that cell did, how many sins it made. We are asking Allah to protect us. We are sinful servants. We ask Allah to accept us as servants. But we are sinful servants.

So he said that “To leave for 40 days to completely drop off from your life, all kinds of bad desires and only for 40 days doing your prayers and worship to Allah, the tree of anger, the tree of forbiddens will be cut completely and you will be rewarded as Jihad al-akbar and Jihad al-asghar, you will be rewarded like that if you leave it for 40 days.”

He said that “awliyaullah before they need to do too many seclusions in order to reach that level of purity, eliminating from themselves the 800 forbiddens, the akhlaq adh-dhamima the worst of characters to eliminate from that person.” He said that “In this time Allah opened a special rahmat that in order to reach the highest level of moral excellence as if we have done a lot of seclusion , although we didn’t do any seclusion, and if you don’t do any seclusion today there is a special mercy that anyone, if before they had to do many seclusion to reach moral excellence, as if you had done hundreds of seclusions, what you have to do? Allah’s mercy is like that. Allah’s blessing and tajalli is like that. What is required from us? If you guarantee you will be granted the maqam al-ihsan an ta`budallah ka-anaka taraah, maqam al-ihsan third level of Islam. What do you have to do? Drop anger from yourself. Don’t get angry. Don’t try to evaluate people and make for them accounts. First evaluate yourself, are you good or are you bad? Don’t look at others. When you look at others Allah doesn’t like that.“ Grandshaykh said and I will quote that. Man yarda `an ahwaalina Allah yarda `anhu. Wa alladhee…w yuhaasibahum wa yatruk al-`ibaad and the one who doesn’t run after people and try to see their mistakes and doesn’t try to… Allah will send that person to Paradise without account. Leave the people alone. What is your concern? They are giving you a cheap package. Before you had to do a lot of worship …la rahata fee ad-deen. It is very difficult “no relaxation in religion.” They know we are lazy today they know we are sinful today. They say do this and you get everything. That means “what do you want better than that?” That means don’t look what he is doing, don’t look what she is doing. Look at oneself, am I good or am I bad. Everyone looks at himself good. That is garbage.

Allah said in Holy Qur’an “wa la toozakoo anfusikum – Don’t try to uplift yourself or don’t try to raise yourself.” Don’t say, “I am good.” What did the Prophet do? Allah made him the moon and made him the sun, made him everything. Subhanallah what a big difference between what Allah gave to the Prophet and he is seal of messengers and what he said, “Allahuma la takilnee ila nafsee tarfata `ayn – O Allah don’t let me to myself for the blink of an eye.” Look from this how much the self is bad, although the Prophet has every goodness in him. For one second. That means for one nanosecond. Don’t say to yourself, “I am good.” Don’t listen to what your self gossips in your ear. What time do gossips come? When we are praying. To see how much valuable prayer is to Allah swt, see how much Shaytan comes to destroy it. When you say “Allahu Akbar,” Allah! Everything comes there. Whey doesn’t it come when you are sitting? Why it doesn’t come now? No, only when you say “Allahu Akbar.” It is the magic word, Shaytan gets upset.

Then say bismillahi alhamdulillah rabbil-`alameen. Because when you are outside the prayer you are in dunya already you are falling into sins. But when you are in prayer, is when you are away from sins and so that shows how much prayers important to Allah and how much Shaytan doesn’t like them.

And so what is needed? To do seclusion. And to show how much it is rewarded then Allah says leave them alone, even your children, even your wives. Allah will ask them. We are not going to ask them and they will not listen to you. Your children think that they know more than you; they want to go womanizing and making drugs and doing everything now. And if you tell them “no” they call police on you.

Because Shaytan is penetrating through them from top to bottom, because of anger. Go and speak with a child see how much he is anger. What we call in Arabic an-nafs at-tifl al-madhmoum. He develops that anger from childhood. People are angry with each other. May Allah save us from that and protect us. May Allah open to us the best of his beauty and love for the sake of Sayyidina Muhammad (s) and for sake of our shuyukh especially for sake of Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim al-Haqqani and Grandshaykh.

Alhamdulillah.

We continue from the previous session that every moment Allah swt is sending His favors on us. In every moment Allah swt is sending His mercy on us. Why? And how can we know that? How can we know that Allah is honoring us with His favors?

Allah honoring us with continuous favors… He just came in; it is a favor. We were waiting for him to begin. We were just being, you didn’t miss anything.

So how do we know that these favors are coming on us is that Allah did not stop us from breathing. When someone stops breathing what does that mean? He is dead. That is a big honor and a big favor that Allah swt is sending that air that we are able to inhale and exhale. If that stops then we are finished.

What stops first; the inhale or the exhale? [inhale] Exhale because when it goes out it stops and doesn’t come in. So the first sign is when the breath will go out but the new one doesn’t come in. So that is ni`mat from Allah swt on us that He is blessing us with it. So how much… it is very small [amount of] air that goes in and when it goes in you take the oxygen and you leave the rest. How does the body knows this is the oxygen and the rest is not oxygen?

Today if they want to determine the air and check it, it is a big process to determine where is the oxygen, the helium, the hydrogen and all the different gases.

SubhanAllah, Allah gave us the ability to know what is right for us and what is bad for us. If the body knows what is good for you and the oxygen is good for you and the oxygen goes to the heart to take the blood to the brain and to the whole body do you think then we don’t know what is good and what is evil? If our body knows which gas is good for us, the oxygen and not the rest, does not Allah know to give to us [awareness of] what is evil and what is not evil.

Why then do we follow evil? If we know and our body knows and our soul knows why then we don’t stop ourselves form falling in the trap of Shaytan?

That is why as we said previously – you weren’t here – that Allah swt likes His servant to always be asking as a student is asking from a teacher. Grandshaykh said, “don’t make yourself a scholar, but make yourself a student.”

There is no scholar. Every scholar is a student to the scholar who is above him, in every field. In every field there are the scholars and they are students to the scholars that are above them but the ego doesn’t let you to do that. The ego is what makes us fall into the problem of everything.

“Allah,” Grandshaykh said, may Allah bless his soul, that “difficulties, afflictions, Allah changed them when we receive them as afflictions, they are difficulties that we are in but in reality they become ni`mat later.”

And this is a big … it has a big meaning that we have to understand, how an affliction becomes a ni`mat. How an affliction becomes a favor. How a difficulty becomes a favor. How a sickness becomes a favor, a ni`mat.

People when they have a sickness what do they say? They don’t say it is a ni’mat, favor. They say it is a difficulty and a problem and they are seeking a way to get out of it. So any affliction or difficulty that comes on us Grandshaykh said, “it is a ni’mat.”

What does he mean? He means that because it is an affliction, since you got that affliction and it came on you, because of that Allah will clean you of your sins and change them to rewards.

Excepted, however, shall be they who repent and attain to faith and do righteous deeds: for it is they whose [erstwhile] bad deeds God will transform into good ones – seeing that God is indeed much-forgiving, a dispenser of grace. [25:70]

Because you were patient on that affliction or difficulty Allah will change those sins to hasanaat. So how many of Ummat an-Nabi doesn’t have difficulty. Do you have difficulties? Sometimes. Of course.

You have difficulties? All of us do. So Allah cleans you with it. Look the.. you now Khan, Ikramullah Khan, the one with the beard there, with clothes well-ironed. You see he is very handsome, very well-ironed. All of us we sit at the mirror every day or we… I don’t shout, but might be you shout. How many times you shout at your wife, how many times you say, “You didn’t iron my clothes!” You shout? You shout also? You also. He is more patient than you. You are French.

So you shout at her, “Why didn’t you iron my clothes?” In order that when you go out people respect you and consider you good-looking. But before they were ironed where were they? Why do we have to iron them? Why were they wrinkled? I am asking them on the Internet. Why they were wrinkled? Because they were washed. Why were they dirty? Because we made them dirty.

So when you make your self, your ego dirty, too much dirty then you need a washing machine now. What is that washing machine. That washing machine when you put it in, what happens? The washing machine begins to squeeze them and squeeze them. Then what? They come out of the washing machine very wrinkled.

We are dirty. To clean ourselves they send us to the washing machine. The washing machine will squeeze us. Completely squeeze us and squeeze us and bring us out. It brings you out wrinkled but you come out clean.

Allah swt sends on you affliction and in the end you come out clean. Allah loves us. Why? Because He made us from the nation of Sayyidina Muhammad (s). Allah loves all the prophets but he loves Sayyidina Muhammad (s) more than all the others. He created us from his light and he created everything for his sake.

So He didn’t make us from the nation of any other prophet and that means He loves us more than any other nation.

They asked me a question on Noor TV: “why do we the Muslim community today have problems?” We are dirty, they are washing us. We are always losing today because we are more dirty and more dirty and more dirty. Allah wants us to be clean. The Prophet Muhammad (s) is clean. He will not send us to be with him (s) dirty. So He cleans us by squeezing us and then at the end we need to be ironed. Ironing means to repent. When we are ironed we come to have a nicer body because of the afflictions that afflict us.

So affliction is a ni’mat. People don’t look at it from that point of view but awliyaullah look at it from that point of view. The Prophet (s) said, what? He said, “I am the person most among the Prophets and among human beings that has been abused the most.” And he is seal of the messengers.

Look Sayyidina Musa Alayhissalam lost 40 years in the desert. Allah told him “I will give you victory over Pharaoh” and for 40 years he was lost. And for 40 years Pharaoh was crushing the Bani Israel and Sayyidina Musa Alayhissalam was lost.

Sayyidina `Isa Alayhissalam they were rushing to kill him. Sayyidina Muhammad (s) they were trying to torture and abuse him and tried to kill him. Sayyidina Ibrahim Alayhissalam was tortured and thrown in the fire. Sayyidina Nuh Alayhissalam, they were stoning and harming and abusing him when he was building the ark.

So are we better than the Prophets? Allah sends afflictions to clean us. So don’t say when afflictions come that is not ni’mat. Say “O Allah you sent it and you can take it away, and I am repenting. Allah sent it in order for us to repent in order that we will be in good position in front of Allah swt on the Day of Judgment.”

And he said that when we do a sin we are doing it with …when we fall into a mistake, a sin, a desire of the ego, we do it with full energy. When the time of prayer comes we do it full of laziness. How many people don’t pray? And Allah says you have to pray five prayers. When prayers come we are lazy, especially Fajr prayer. When Fajr prayer comes we are sleeping.

Young people say, “O shaykh I cannot wake up for Fajr. What do I have to do?” What do you have to do? Beat yourself up. He said, “I cannot wake up for Fajr.” Put an alarm clock. Tell your wife to wake you up, because she prays and you don’t pray. No, I am joking.

So put an alarm clock. They say, “We put the alarm clock but then we turn this side or that side we put it off.” So as soon as it begins to ring they put it off, is it not?

Why is it good to have a masjid on every street and every corner? Because you cannot put the masjid off. When the muezzin beings to make adhan you cannot stop him. His voice reaches all over.

Today Shaytan is telling people, “Don’t live near a mosque.” In Muslim countries they put a microphone. In the past they have minarets, 1 or 2 or 4 minarets and they go up, and they call adhan from there.

Today they put speakers but for Fajr prayers they lower the speaker [volume]. They don’t call the adhan on speakers. It is a law now in many countries. Why? Because they don’t want to wake people up at Fajr time.

So they say, “I put the alarm off.” I said, “Ok put the alarm far from the bed and it will keep ringing.” So you are worried for the children not to wake up, especially the young ones and then you are up. Finished.

So the problem is that. And that is what he says, Grandshaykh, and Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, may Allah give him long life, that when prayer time comes we are lazy. For doing something haram we are so energetic. That is how our ego is tricking us. And then what will happen? We are under difficulties.

That is why we are asking, “Ya Rabbee, we are sinful servants. Sinful human beings. We are asking You to help us to take away that bad desire that is within ourselves and You are the one who can take it for the sake of Sayyidina Muhammad (s) and for sake of awliyaullah take away that bad character that we have and fill us with more worship love and more love to good `amal. Else we are falling in the trap of Shaytan. We don’t have enough power, power comes from you ya Allah. Nothing comes from us.”

He was addressing one of the most famous scholars in Islam who doesn’t have a beard. You know there are some scholars in Egypt and in Arab countries that are very big `ulama. Even grand muftis in Muslim countries but they might not have a beard.

He said, “if you leave your beard to grow, Allah will open to you the level of sainthood.” Because he is an `alim, he is ready. His ego doesn’t let him to grow his beard. Because if he wants to take his turban and his hat and he has no beard and he has long hair, nice hair, he can easily go to any disco, is it not Abu Shuayb? But when he has a long beard and a cap on his head can he go to a disco? He cannot. So Islamic image when you dress it, it saves you. That is why the Prophet said, “al-ama’imu tijaan al-`arab, the turbans are the crowns of the Arabs,” turbans are the crowns of the Muslims. They have a lot of them in Afghanistan. But make sure they don’t have turbans and long hair. So they can take the turban off and with out it the long hair and a little bit of beard it is easy to go anywhere, no one knows he is an `alim.

And those who don’t have a beard and don’t have a turban, what did you do with Sunnah of the Prophet? You killed it. “Whoever revived my Sunnah when there is everywhere corruption, Allah will reward him like the reward of 70 martyrs.” Sahaba were dying for one martyr. The Prophet (s) is saying that when there is corruption in the Ummah anyone who revives my sunnah Allah will reward him [as] 70 martyrs.

Why are we not doing it? Look at this one, masha-Allah he is French, but he has a hat and a beard. Look at this one, American, a convert, he has a beard and a hat on his head.

Look at that one, he looks Pakistani but he is not . He shaved his beard. He is going to grow it now. I like him; that is why I pick on him.

So the appearance is also important. Like a clock. If the clock is working from inside, if the battery is working, what is the benefit? You don’t see the time.

If our appearance does not look likea Muslim appearance like the Prophet (s) and his sahaba’s appearance it doesn’t look like he is Muslim. It is like we lost the needles of the clock. And these needles are the Islamic appearance.

Keep Islamic appearance at least when we are praying. People are praying today without an Islamic appearance. It is ok as long as they know that and as long as they try to be a loyal servant to Allah swt. what can we do> The time is very difficult to observe that and to do what is needed to be done.

But know that Allah sends these difficulties because we are away from our Islamic behavior and that reminds us and cleans us and brings us back clean in the presence of Allah swt.

So he told that scholar that “if you grow your beard then you will become a saint.” That means that when you have support you will kill the Shaytan within you.

When you become different than others, people look at you, you feel that you don’t belong there. You find yourself strange in a corrupted community. Still he is doing it wearing his beard. Allah will give such people support. And we are asking Allah swt to give us support.

And he asked, “What is humbleness. Ma huwa at-tawada`. What is different between humbleness and selfishness. What is the difference between humbleness and arrogance? What is the difference between humbleness and pride?”

He said, “there is a huge difference. You have been grafted, just as you grafted a wild tree to give a sweet fruit, how you graft it, humbleness is when you are grafted by the Prophet (s) , who is the highest level of humbleness that Allah gave to him. It means you are inheriting from the Prophet. Selfishness, arrogance and pride you are inheriting from Iblees. He is the most arrogant and most proud and most selfish. Allah described him when he said,

قَالَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِّنْهُ خَلَقْتَنِي مِن نَّارٍ وَخَلَقْتَهُ مِن طِينٍ

Answered [Iblis]: “I am better than he: Thou hast created me out of fire, whereas him Thou hast created out of clay.” [38:76]

and Allah threw him out.”

And the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam was most humble. How we know that? He was invited to ”qaaba qawsayni aw adna – two bow’s length or nearer.” No other prophet was invited there. So humbleness takes you high, very much and pride takes you very low.

We are asking Allah to fill us with humbleness and to be very near to the Prophet (s) and to take away from our heart’s arrogance, pride and selfishness and to keep us away from Satan. By this way we will be able to destroy the house of Satan that he builds in our hearts and we will be able to build happiness peace and satisfaction within our hearts and building ourselves up to be better servants to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta`ala.

May Allah support us and bless us and …

Anything you want to know, you have to see. Is It not? If you don’t see, then you don’t know really what is going on. That is why we say there is three levels, `ilm al-yaqeen, `ayn al-yaqeen and haqq al-yaqeen. The reality and certainty of `ilm al-yaqeen, the knowledge of certainty, that means you are certain of the something of `ilm that you are hearing about something. But hearing is incomplete, only to hear. Without seeing you cannot have the two realities together. That is why awliyaullah learned from the Prophet (s) how to guide their followers. Because the Prophet (s) delivered the message to his Sahaba, the message of Islam. He delivered it how? By saying and they are hearing. So this is the level that everyone can understand and can reach. “Listen and obey.” “Listen and obey.”

You cannot say “I am listening and I am not obeying.” You are listening means you are accepting to listen. As soon as you listen you have to obey what has been said to you. Punch them. Especially checks. And Cherkess also, you cannot speak with them one word, they bat you immediately. Cherkess, masha-Allah gave them they are very strong believers. They migrated to the Middle East. Many of them. Might be now they are not like that. You can say anything to them, no way. That one came to Grand Grandshaykh. May Allah bless them, Grandshaykh’s soul and Grandshaykh Shaykh Sharafuddin’s soul.

One came like that. He had daggers. They have that. And they cannot take it out even for security in the airport. They say “no way our dagger can be put on the side.” They even go to the king like that. No one can take it – that is humiliating their manhood. No one can take it. In Yemen, in Oman.

That one came to Grandshaykh with dagger and his hat, his fez, you know how they wear like this in Morocco, putting like that [cocks his turban to side] and he said, “Give me tariqah. Give me baya`!” What baya`? His dagger here, his pistol here and his turban like that. If anyone wants to speak with him, he will kill him, beat him.

If anyone wants to take tariqah, he has to be humble. Today, Mawlana Shaykh is giving tariqah, baya` to everyone – for baraka. But before it was very rare to give until they test the mureed completely that he is safe from the hand of Shaytan completely. Then they give. That is baya` to the Prophet (s). Allah said:

You cannot say baya` to Grandshaykh even. No the baya` has to go to Mawlana Shaykh Nazim. Many people say, “we came and took baya` with our Shaykh and we are here to see our Grandshaykh.”

So you heard the story. But Grand Grandshaykh looked at his heart and found it clean; very sadiq; sincere he wants it really; he is not playing and he wants baya` and to listen.

So he has to teach him. He said, “O my son, rest today and I will give you baya`, don’t take your dagger and kill me. Go tomorrow I will give you your assignment.” He didn’t sleep all night. He was thinking “why he didn’t give me baya`. If he doesn’t give me baya`, I will have to cut his nails, cut his fingers, cut his ears. What I have to do?”

Everyone is like that – arrogant. He didn’t sleep all night happy his shaykh is going to give him baya` tomorrow. He prayed Fajr with the Shaykh and then the Shaykh said to him, “Today you go down to city and you will find a man carrying items on his shoulders and go behind him and with all your power slap him on his neck and come back and tell me what happens.”

O that man was so happy is this in tariqah this is nice, I will do every day like that. That is tariqah, I found finally what I need.

So next day, he went down to the city and as Shaykh describe he found that man walking with items on his shoulders on a stick and he wants to sell them. Then he came from back with his hand and he is a wrestler, it is like 10 kilos. When these boxers punch it is 100 km./second hitting you. When they punch it is like accident in a car hitting you. He took his hand and slapped him. He was so happy, he slapped him, [thinking,] “tariqah is nice.” He was looking now that he wants to hit a second time. The guy will be angry and hit him and then he will have fight. He will happy he made fitna, created confusion like all these Muslim media today they create confusion.

Then he was waiting, waiting. That man looked at him very angry. But he didn’t move. And then he was angry, he didn’t fight. His Shaykh told him observe not to hit him second time. So he was disappointed and went back to his teacher, his Shaykh and the Shaykh said what happened. He said, “O my shaykh I was so happy you gave me that order and I slap with all my power. And that made me more angry because he didn’t bother to fight me back and though he looked at me angry.”

So the Shaykh said ok go rest now and tomorrow you have new assignment. He was happy [thinking] “o this is tariqah, hitting people.”

So then he said, “you go downtown and you find someone carrying on his shoulders the intestines of lambs and sheeps, he takes it all with its waste to the river to clean it and fix it and sell it. You go behind him another time and slap him.” He said, “O my Shaykh this tariqah is all slapping. Slapping each other – that is nice.”

So that is what people do in tariqah on chat channels they are slapping each other. One says, “My shaykh said this!” not Mawlana Shaykh but the one who is representative. They say, “My Shaykh said this and my Shaykh said that.” And my Grandshaykh said this and said that. Not only Naqshbandi only but all tariqahs. They are fighting in all tariqahs like that.

I didn’t see it but they told me and I don’t know how to open it even someone has to show me. So he found that man and all the intestines and dripping from it and smelling and with all that acid. Don’t say o that is so bad smell. That is what we will be smelling in the grave. Grandshaykh said if Allah will allow one grave to open and smell the smell of that person it will make the whole dunya to faint from that smell of bad characters.

It is more dangerous. Don’t think when they open the grave and see the bones there’re Is no smell. Grandshaykh said, “if Allah will reveal that smell no one can be alive.”

So that is why when you come to prayers, angles will not approach if there is bad smell. But that means also brush your teeth and brush your mind, clean yourself before praying.

So he went to that one and hit him with two hands. Multiple of two. What happens with multiples of two. He came completely down and all the intestines came all over him and his nose and face inside the stomach and all that food inside the lambs stomach coming inside his mouth. If someone tell you go an clean that stomach what will you do?

Ask how many times I cleaned this stomach and intestines? They sell it in Turkey Eskembe chorba. They grind the stomach into small small pieces and boil it all night until you don’t see any more of the stomach. It disappeared. It is very nice tasty. One day we will do it here.

What do they call it Orhan. Eskembe chorba. Stomach soup.

At least say alhamdulillah we eat it what can I do.

So this man was completely into the stomach what are you expecting him to do? Not only the first one getting angry but taking the stomach and throwing it on the wrestler. What did he do? He looked at him and he was laughing. Not serious laugh, smiling.

The wrestler got upset. What is this? He doesn’t send me except to crazy people.

So he was disappointed that he could not fight.

He went back to Shaykh and Shaykh asked, “what happened?” He said, “This one was worse than the other, he was smiling even.”

He said, “no you go rest, pray. Tomorrow you will go somewhere.”

So next day he said, “Go to the village, go to nature. Nature is more ready to give you strength. You will see there in farmland a farmer, old with an age of 70 years and with him is the buffalo, and he is plowing the field, the soil. Take the stick (and it is triple this one a big one) and go to that farm and you will see him plowing. At that time, when you see him, and take that stick and beat him on his back and keep beating him until it breaks.”

If the Shaykh asks you to do that what will you do it? You will say, “I cannot do that I cannot beat someone.” So it is test for both.

He went, he was happy, [thinking] “This is my day. Today I use my stick, tomorrow I use my knife. Next day my pistol. This is the best life. After pistol, then cannon. Then after cannon, rockets.”

Like crazy people today everywhere fighting and every country accuses the other country.

So he was happy. He went and took his stick and went to the village. He saw the farmer and he came behind him and beat him with all his power. If someone does that to you what do you do? So what did the farmer do? First the stick didn’t break. So what the farmer did? He with all his force hit on the plow and made the buffalo run more, quicker. So the second time he hit him, the farmer hit the plow more and went faster. And the third time he hit him and the stick broke. Then the man came to the wrestler and put his hand on his head and said, “forgive me.” Then he was more crazy. The first one was angry, the second one was smiling and their one is asking my forgiveness. What is this tariqah. Something coming to change him.

So he went to Shaykh he said, “I cannot take it anymore.” Shaykh said, “O my son the first one is a beginner in tariqah. He looked at you angry but he is trying to hold his anger. He doesn’t want to blow up, he is keeping his anger down. That is why he is still at the first level, he didn’t yet take baya`.”

(So to take baya` someone has to beat you. )

The second one is a musta`id. The first is mubtadi` – in kindergarten. They begin school early here. The second is ready musta’id, he knew looking at you smiling. O my Shaykh I know you are testing me, I am not going to get angry. Ego is still playing with him. He is proud of himself that he knows the Shaykh is sending to me and means I go my lesson, I am smiling. His smile is not to you his simile is to you. He saw his Shaykh there. You see the level the musta’id has. Are we seeing? Where are we? Beginners? No we are not, we are lovers only, muhibeen. We didn’t get the stick yet. If Mawlana give the stick what you do? You run away. Only those who took the stick many times they know how much it is hard. How many times we got that stick, not stick, cannons.

He said, “The third one is a real mureed. When you hit him he knows he is doing mistakes and that means he is not doing well the duty he has been given. He is not plowing it nicely. (He knew he didn’t do it nicely. The farm here means the awraad. He is not doing well on the awraad.) You hit him a second time; you pushed him more and he is saying, ‘Ya Rabbee, I made mistakes, I knew that I was not doing it right.’”

“So the third time he knew when you broke the stick, he knew that it caused pain on your hand and came and kissed your hand. He was thinking, ‘O Allah let this man not to sue me on Day of Judgment to say that I hurt him.’”

That man in three days learned the principles of tariqah. And it entered his heart. He threw away his pistol, threw away his dagger, threw away his crooked turban and then he said, “Ya Sayyidee what do you want from me?” He said, “Come after Fajr.”

So next day he took him to a tree. Then he said, “Take this stone and hit the tree.” He is a wrestler and he took the stone and hit the branch with all his power. The branch was hit and it broke and as it broke 10 apples came down. He said, “pick them up.” He said, “in our tariqah, if anyone hurts you, you must reward him. He is carrying difficulty and problems and diseases from you. If you do good for him you might bring him to Islam and to tariqah. Anyone hurts you, don’t hurt him but send him flowers. As you hurt this tree it gave you ten fruits. It didn’t say “no”.

So that is between … he put that person into seclusion right away for 40 days and gave him khilapha and send him from city to city and to different countries. Awliyaullah send their representatives to different countries to send the message of the Shaykh and to spread their teachings. Then he said, “You go. You have permission. Not permission to sit. (Today many people sit in their places.) No I want you to move around.”

So tariqah is big struggle between arrogance and humbleness. To carry a dagger or to carry a stick or to be humble with nothing. No need for knife in the pocket even. Except as Sunnah to use for food. No more than that.

So shaytan plays with us. Because he cannot play with anyone else except with those who they are struggling on their faith, he splays with them to keep them arrogant. Look many of our brothers Muslims they cannot accept one word. They fight for it.

The Prophet (s), how much he was abused and tortured by his own tribe – people around him and people far from him. Different tribes. He never raised his sword except for defense of himself and his companions. Never did he criticize anyone. He said, to them as Allah said,

لَكُمْ دِينُكُمْ وَلِيَ دِينِ

“lakum deenukum wa leeya deen – To you be your Way, and to me mine.” Al-Kafirun [109:6]

If you accept, you accept , if you don’t accept, you don’t accept.

So Allah brought Sayyidina Muhammad (s) to Mi’raj to qaba qawsayni aw adna to give him what to dress him and to see him. Not only sending him revelation and revelation but He wants to honor His prophet (s).

So that is why we said at first there are three states: `ilm al-yaqeen, `ayn al-yaqeen, haqqa l-yaqeen – the knowledge of certainty, the eye of certainty, the reality of certainty. We didn’t explain yet, we are explaining between arrogance and humbleness. So if you are humble you will receive realities. So that knowledge which will make us go further in the life and make us more and more stronger in our faith.

We will explain this in coming session, tomorrow. Insha-Allah.

Wa min Allah at-tawfeeq bi-hurmati ‘l-Fatiha.

Islam is [like] a cake, you can express it like that. Any way you slice it you get a slice you are lucky. It is sweet and tasty. If you don’t get a piece you are not lucky. Allah honored us with Islam.

Usually when we go to anywhere to apply for anything you will go to apply for a passport they ask you “what’s your name?” You apply for a marriage, they ask you “what’s your name?” If you go to school they ask you “what is your name?” You have to put your name on every test and if you don’t know your name you cannot get your ticket or your passport.

Also awliyaullah are asking us “what is our name”, in order that we can know what kind of a… in which door we are going to enter. Are we going to enter this door or that door? You cannot enter a door other than the door your name is written on. And always you like to enter a door, a place where there is some kind of important [event] or a palace. You don’t want to enter a shack. A burning shack? Huh?

So what is the best door you can enter? For sure it is not the door of dunya, it is the door of akhira. The door of dunya, if you are looking for a door that takes you to the door of akhira that is good. If you are looking for a door that is taking you to punishment in akhira that is bad.

So there are two doors, either your name is sa`eed or your name is shaqee. Either your name is “happy” or your name is “troublemaker” shaqee means a bad one whose life is always bad. So it is either one of these two names, either you are sa`eed having good ending, and good happy life or you are going to have a troubled life. That is why sa`eed or shaqee. And this is for sure you are, either you are this or you are that. Either you are sa`eed or you are shaqee. And no one knows what will happen, which door you are going to be and which name you have. Only Allah knows this and that is in his unseen knowledge. That is why in Laylat nisf sha`ban, the Night of Mid-Sha`ban [when]:

يَمْحُو اللّهُ مَا يَشَاء وَيُثْبِتُ وَعِندَهُ أُمُّ الْكِتَابِ

yamhullah ma yasha’ wa yuthbitu wa `indahu ummu’l-kitab.

Allah doth blot out or confirm what He pleaseth: with Him is the Mother of the Book [13:39]

[On that night] we ask,“O Allah don’t make us shaqee but make us su`ada. Takes us from the bad people and put us to the good people.” Awliya know that du`a is there [is acceptable]. O human beings! This is in Allah’s Knowledge but Allah gave us ways to get out of it. He gave us a way to tell us “try to be good.

[He said,] “Take the mattresses of dunya and bring the mattresses of akhira.”

It means don’t be living a life that all in it is bad desires and bad pleasures, but live a life that is happy desires and good desires and good pleasures and good desires. To look in Allah’s way is to look for what Allah wants us to do and leave what Allah doesn’t want us to do.

Awliyaullah when their hearts are coming on the way of Allah swt on the sirat al-mustaqeem, they will listen to no one except Him. Whatever you ask them, they might give you an order that is different from what you think. They don’t accept to go according to your opinion.

These days awliyaullah they bring their level down to your level. Before, no. They will never accept. Because before people were more powerful on their faith, they have more strength on their faith, they will accept whatever comes from the shaykh. Today no. They will run away. That is why today you see the shuyukh who are so soft with their students they have hundreds, thousands, even hundreds of thousands of students. The people who are strict have very few students. People today like softness, they don’t like strictness.

Do you like to wear soft clothes or thick clothes? Soft! So they invented today a kind of detergent that makes your clothes to be soft. And so now everyone running to buy that detergent to make their clothes soft and give a nice smell. Softener. It takes away all the elements that are rough in order to make it very soft.

Did they have that 100 years ago? No, they had only soap, no detergent. Therefore everything reflects what is in this life. Before they didn’t have soft clothes; they are easygoing on what they do [i.e. ease was not a concern].

Today they want soft awliyaullah. To relax and sleep and the shaykh will do for you everything.

Fold up your mattresses, sleep on the floor and don’t be soft. If you life a life that is not soft you will live in akhira a life that is soft.

Today awliyaullah are very soft, and else all people will run from them. Today you see them they have followers from every race. You dump on him all your garbage and you don’t want any difficulty. If you face difficulty you run away. So what does he do? He carries all these difficulties and goes to the Prophet (s) and says, “I accept all this garbage” and goes to the Presence of Prophet (s) with all his followers, clean.

Awliyaullah they have softener. They soften you and give you a good smell. You put Bounce to have a good smell. You are stinky, what kind of Bounce do you need? We need a big package of Bounce. The awliyaullah take a big package and they carry their followers and present them to the Prophet (s) with their nice smell. Then prophet with his love takes them all in and with his shafa`a takes to the presence of Allah. Prophet has shafa`a in dunya and akhira.

Are we gong to enter through door of light, where Allah is nur as-samawati wal ard.

Or we are going to enter from door of darkness, dhulumat. Allah wants us to enter through door of light.

So awliyaullah don’t listen except to Allah swt. They don’t want you to enter except by door of happiness. They don’t see you. They cover your mistakes they don’t want to see it. They try to vile you form these mistakes. They want tot see Divine Presence and they want to take you there. If they see your big mistakes they cannot easily take you. From that power of Sattar, they cover you completely; to cover you from being naked. When we do something wrong we become naked and so they cover us.

They a re between majesty and beauty, they don’t bend right or left. They have only a front. You know we have a front and a back. They don’t have a back. They have a front only. Lahum amam wa laysa lahum wara. That means they are always looking straight forward. What happened , happened. They are living their moments. Allah is saying come forward. We say, “no we want to go backwards.” They say, “Come to ma`rifatullah.” “No! we want to go back.”

Awliyaullah don’t look back. That means, what happened [before], it is finished it is gone. If you bring it up it is not acceptable, it is not nice, then it becomes backbiting. Why is it called “back” biting. It means biting in the back. They bite you.

Who is biting you? It means anyone who looks back is biting your back and carrying your sins. The Prophet (s) prohibited backbiting. When you look forward and don’t look backward then ins will become your servant. They will come to you and they will help you and they will work for you without you asking. Why? Because you are always moving forward always facing the Divine Presence and as we mentioned the story of the Prophet (s) when he put the Sahaba in front of him and the sun at their back and said to them to catch their shadows. Then when they could not, he told them, “Put the sun at your back. Catch your shadow and run.” Then he said, ” look to me and run” and the sun was behind them. Then their shadows ran towards them. That means “look to me, and come to me!” Then dunya will run after you.

Then dunya will become your servant as Allah provided Sayyida Maryam, he provides everything.

He provided His Prophet (s) with everything. What did He say? إِنَّا أَعْطَيْنَاكَ الْكَوْثَرَ Inna `ataynak al-kawthar – Verily we have given thee (O Muhammad) ,the Fount of Kawthar.” [108:1]

That means on one meaning we have given you river of Kawthar. But on the other side it means “We have given you endless knowledge and favors.” فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَانْحَرْ - Therefore, Praise Him endlessly.

إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ الْأَبْتَرُ

Verily, he that hates thee has indeed been cut off [from all that is good]! [108:3]

The one who spoke against are the one who has no reputation.

It means:

Their name is going to end. Your name is until the Judgment Day. All prophets will run to you asking shafa`a with their umam, nations. Those who speak about you their reputation is cut and they cannot do anything. Don’t worry about yourself. Allah swt will make ins to run after you to help you. He makes jinn to help you. He makes kings and presidents to help you and makes all kinds of creations that we don’t know, that Allah and His Prophet (s) know and the awliyaullah learn from the Prophet (s) that there are living species, living creatures that you cannot see them.

The Prophet (s) used to send Sayyidina `Ali Radiallahu anhu to these planets that are near the earth.

One time Sayyida Fatima came to the Prophet (s) and said, “I am not coming to complain to you, O my father, but I have a problem.” He said, “Do you have a problem with Sayyidina `Ali?” She said, “No, my father. I feel shy to mention it. But sometimes he doesn’t come at night for 2 or 3 days. I have no doubts, but I am worried about him.” He said, “Don’t worry, I sent him to the planets that are nearest to the earth.”

How was he able to go without space shuttle. Which planets. They say now they are going to Mars and to the moon. More than that are they going we don’t know. We don’t know even, if they made the pictures up. But let us go with it, and say they went to those planets, how long it takes to send that spacecraft to Mars? They send it and even then they cannot bring it back. And it takes 2-3 years. Sayyidina `Ali – it takes him one moment. What did he use? Don’t be surprised what he used. Allah gave His Prophet (s) power, he used that power.

The distance from Yemen to Quds ash-Sharif, it takes a long time. He said, “my meeting will be over before that. I want it before she comes.” Then Asif ibn Barkhiyya, one of his ministers that had knowledge of the book of Dawud, Zaboor, he had sultan. He had that sultan, vehicle, mentioned in that verse [55:33]. He said, “I will bring that to you.” In the blink of an eye he bought it there.

In a blink of an eye the throne was there.

That is the power of ins (human beings). Don’t think ins don’t have power. When we say ins, we mean awliyaullah that are within human race. Allah will make these awliyaullah to work for you. Those who are in lower levels do work for those on higher levels. So Allah will make ins, jinn, scholars, president and kings, to work for you as you are looking forward, not looking backward. Let us cut our back, then we cannot look back. Why look back then. You look at the backs of others. You don’t see your own ego, that is a hump like the hump of a camel. You don’t look at your own hump. So why do you look at the back of people?

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani | Saturday, Oct 18, 2008 | Upper Saddle River, NJ US

Home of Reza

I know a doctor also and he is very clever, he did 4 years surgery, 4 years nephrology, 4 years …always he was studying. The called him to one country and he went there with the Minister of Education of royal family. And one time a very important. Guest came and they put him in same room with the doctor and he snores a lot. that doctor cannot sleep. He snores more than AH, more than AF. He snores like Beethoven, like making music, together with Mozart, all mixed together. AF, when he sleeps in our house, when he snores the whole house shakes, in California long time ago.

So the doctor cannot sleep, the house is shaking the room is shaking and it is a palace.

What he has to do? That guest is going to stay with him one week so it means we cannot work. So he came to him, the latest medication they gave to people for snoring. I will give you. That man was very happy, he said, “my wife cannot sleep in the same room, I have to sleep maybe one mile from her.”

So he brought an injection and it contains numbing and he said, “I have to inject that in your nose. It will not hurt but all your snoring will be finished.” He is correct the snoring will be finished for one week.

Then he gave him that injection and from pain he was so shaking. That injection went in and for one week that snoring stopped. Then it started again. He came back to the doctor and said, “I am snoring again.” So the doctor said, “what can I do, I need to work.” “Ok give my 100 dollars back then.” “Oh it is too late.”

Before two years he [Shaykh M] could not walk, we have to help him with crutches. And he was on way to see someone and they had accident. His wife died, his driver died and at that moment he saw Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, pushing him out of the car. Because he did something unacceptable.

He is Shaykh of Indonesia. He has many students alhamdulillah. First time he came to see me in Indonesia, along with some other people he doesn’t have money, they had money and bought him tickets.

He is professor and he is retired. He is representing Mawlana there. Every day he is traveling. I don’t know where he got that energy. He goes every from one village to another.

Why he got that accident. Not to put him down or dishonor him. But to give an example. He is representing Mawlana Shaykh.

But one time he gave me a book where there is the silsilah. Many people do that. We are all in this problem and in this sickness. That after some years of hard working and always with me and when I go there he introduce me to different people and arrange different functions, and these functions are 100000 or 500,000, not 100 people like here. Am I saying the truth or not? Yes.

So after 3 years had a book, I think Dala’il al-Khayrat, and in it is the silsilah of Naqshbandi Golden Chain. And what he did, he added my name and he added his name after it. Out of innocence. Because people in Indonesia have to go to whom? They go to him. So he added his name as the 41. awliyaullah don’t like that. While the shaykh is alive you cannot do that. If someone is to be added, he will add it himself.

Today this one, his love doesn’t change. However much you shout at him, his love doesn’t change. But this sickness is everywhere. As soon as they have been told you can represent and do dhikr they become the calipha and their name is after Mawlana Shaykh Nazim. So for that, he got that accident. They saved him,…

After that he is so… he is a professor. You know what is professor? Many many years in university. He knows all the politicians and everyone there. And thousands of students. He is very humble. He goes from one island to another, one island to another. They have 22,000 islands. He visited I think 5000 islands, everywhere.

You know when Aceh was hit by the tsunami, and the only masjids saved was Naqshbandi masjids. That one they always show is a Naqshbandi masjid. And the village they go, Xamhoori, that one was saved.

I am coming through here on the way to Sri Lanka. In Sri Lanka, when you go there, I used to go with Mawlana Shaykh. Last time was 2001. When you go from the airport, if there is an event when you go from the home to the masjid… you have to do it in Indonesia.

So what they have in Sri Lanka, next time [do it] in Indonesia. It is not 10,000. 10,000 is nothing. 50,000 at least. From the house where Mawlana Shaykh is going to pass to the mosque, might be 10 miles far, they bring a horse or a truck and they put a huge chair in the truck and Mawlana Shaykh Nazim is not facing straight forward but facing the back to people behind the truck and like an ocean of human beings, behind the truck and all with takbir and Mawlana waving to the people until he reaches the mosque. There he goes inside and makes whatever he wants to make of dhikr and suhbat and then at the end they want to make baya`. We didn’t do this in Indonesia. I saw Indonesia dangerous for baraka they tear you apart. There we do the way of raising the hands. They raise their hands and take baya`, 50,000, 20,000 people.

Not in Sri Lanka – they use ropes – they throw ropes from one place to another and people holding the ropes and then Mawlana is holding in his hands hundreds of ropes and he gives baya`.

One time he was in Pakistan in `Ali al-Hujwiri’s Mosque and the police were arranging for him to come and there were 100s of thousands. And Mawlana went into the maqam of `Ali al-Hujwiri but it was on microphones so everyone heard it. And then he has to go back out. There, there are people like sand in the desert and they are going to rip Mawlana apart. What to do to get Mawlana out, even security can do nothing. There was a window in the back of the maqam and they told him to climb on their backs and to get out the window. Mawlana went out the window and escaped in a car. And the people were thinking Mawlana is still in there and they are pushing to get in.

Audhu billah min ash-Shaytan ir-rajeem

Bismillahi ‘r-Rahmani ‘r-Raheem

Ati` Allah wa ati` ar-rasula wa uli ‘l-amri minkum

I… many times now, since the last some years ago, I said it and I will repeat it. I felt that ego can trick you in every moment in your life. And it is very difficult to make sure that you can stop your ego from not tricking you. Everyone, including all of us, there are weak points in our lives that ego can come through and tricks human being. It means Shaytan, because Allah is in heart of human beings, as the Prophet (s) mentioned his hadith that He made a place for Shaytan in the heart. Therefore don’t say “I am clean!” No you are not. Shaytan can enter. Allah has given him that possibility, Allah gave him the possibility to approach. That is why when you hear gossips in your mind – things that are not related to Shariah or tariqah – know that Shaytan is there playing with you.

There is a space there fill it, `Ali!

Professor are you there? Sleeping? He cannot hear anymore he needs to be very near. Omar Kone you hided yourself completely.

Sahib take your turban so we can see him.

A`udhu billah min ash-Shaytan ir-rajeem

Bismillahi ‘r-Rahmani ‘r-Raheem

Ati` Allah wa ati` ar-rasula wa uli ‘l-amri minkum

So as much as you are more and more in tariqah, you can understand more the tricks of the ego. And everyone of us his ego, or her ego tricks that person. Because there are weak points, there are points in the heart or in yourself that are vulnerable, they say, to attack. It is like gravity points. Gravity points, you are going down a hill and you make a wrong move inclination what happens to the car. It tips off, flips over. Because all arrows when you are playing with these arrows to throw in the middle of the center, you try to get in the middle of the center you don’t try to get it around. So Shaytan wants to get it in the middle in order to flip you. Many different tricks that will happen. And they know how to come. Allah swt gave them a place for us to understand how much we are vulnerable. What you need? You need an alarm system. Alarm system protects you from thieves. They try to come to your home and immediately the alarm system will send message to station and immediately the police will come.

Do we have an alarm system in our hearts to tell us that Shaytan is coming in? Yes, of course. But we are not using it.

Whenever something comes, weigh it according to Shariah. Or weigh it according to the state of excellence, Maqam al-Ihsan. You are tariqah people. So you are saying we are following tariqah you must follow the Maqam al-Ihsan. Then you will be saved. You will be struggling but you will be saved.

So since all of us are under these attacks from Shaytan and Allah swt gave us a way out of it by following His obedience and obeying His Prophet and obeying those who are in authority, then we will be able to avoid what Shaytan is trying to do.

When you look at this picture that is on the wall, it is a picture of Ka`bah, and you see all these people facing what? All of them are facing Ka`bah from all directions. So their concentration is where? Their focus is where? On the Ka`bah. Their focus is on rida’ullah, Allah’s satisfaction and pleasure. They go there, look all of them wearing white, they go there and still they are struggling there. But their focus is on Ka`bah. We don’t say Shaytan will not go there but they are struggling there.

You have to know there is Ka`bah in the heart. That is why the Holy Prophet (s) revealed that hadith to us from Allah swt, that “the heart of the believer is the House of Allah.” You don’t want the House of Allah in your heart to be dirty. You have to keep cleaning it.

In previous time they used to clean the Ka`bah. And they still do that 2 times a year. In Ottoman times they used to open it once a week and they clean it with very concentrated rose water. The caliph will come crawling on his chest and clean it with rose water and then standing and praying 2 raka`ats.

Also in Madinat al-munawwara they go from Bab at-Tawbah, they go with rose water and the emperor himself or if he is not in Madina he sends someone representing him and they go on their chest and they clean the floor of the grave of the Prophet (s) and they go on their chest out of respect. And they don’t stand up sweeping. No they are crawling and they go out backwards. And if the caliph is not there he sends the imam of the masjid and after cleaning the Rawdah then he goes to do Jumu`ah.

So that is the sign we have to clean our hearts with what? With rose water. As much as concentrated as much as it is affective. Some people might dilute it with water so it has no more smell. Then it is kindergarten. When it is no longer dilute then it is becoming professional incense.

So people today, we come back to that issue. They are not paying attention to all that. They are only paying attention to how to work and make money and build their lives. That is ok, but as you are doing that you must also do something for your akhira. If you don’t do that for akhira it means you are still running around the bushes.

Now those who are following the madhahib al-arba` the different schools of thought. Today Azhar of Egypt said that 8 schools of thought are acceptable. Eight schools of thought. First Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi`i, Hanbali, Ja`fari, Zaydi? and one more I am not recalling right now.

These schools of thought are eight. How Grandshaykh described them? Because all of us are following one of them. You choose one and you are following it. Either you are following Maliki or Hanafi or Ja`fari or Zaydi.

There is one more, I am trying to remember.

So how to describe them? That is why I said we are going around the bushes. He said an example is that you have creature on top of a mountain and you don’t know what kind of creature is that. You know there is a creature there something there up, a living creature. A human being an animal a giraffe, a cow a goat, there is something there. An you are looking from the bottom of the mountain and it is very high mountain and you cannot see except there is something moving. And you are saying that is a creature.

What is that? It is a creature. Let us say a sheep, take an example, as Grandshaykh took the example. Take the lamb it is not wild. Goats are a bit wild they go everywhere.

So you know there is a sheep there you can see there is a creature but you don’t the size of his ears you don’t know the color his eyes and you don’t know this and that, describing him.

Might be a goat. Can you distinguish to tell if it is a goat or sheep. Might be Himalayan mountain. Do you want to go up to see.

So he said, “schools of thought are like that. They know there is a creature there, but they describe in the way they think about it.” But today there are advanced methods that can take you up to show you what that is. That is why awliya today take you up and show you the animal and can tell you what kind of eyes, what kind of ears and all specifics.

He said schools of thought are like that. Therefore Shariah can be stretched. And the Prophet (s) said, “The different in [schools of thought] is mercy” it gives wider way to find a solution for your problem. He said, “all of them are describing that animal but they don’t know what is that animal.” He said, awliyaullah are different they go up the mountain and they see the animal. The hold the ears and they hold the eyes and they hold the leg and they hold the tongue. Then they give you a full description of that animal.

That is why as they are ascending they are bringing a detailed description from their connection with the Holy Prophet (s).

So the bases are the same for that description. The branches of the tree, and the leaves, they can give you how many there are and how many blossoms there are and how many fruits there are on that tree, how many apples are red, how many are bright red, how many are bright red and not only that the will give you every apple its taste and they will tell you “you want the ripe one?”, “you want the sour one?”, “you want the sweet one?” with the taste.

That is different between scholars of taste and the scholars of books – there is a huge difference. That is why these awliya as they are ascending with the Prophet (s) he is giving from his knowledge as he is ascending in every moment and they are giving that knowledge to their students.

That is why it is a danger to call yourself a shaykh. Because are we ascending? No. so how can we call ourselves a shaykh when we are not ascending. They are ascending they are going up they are giving that knowledge. They know best.

So I am repeating what I was saying before, that when you go into understanding these differences and levels between what they say and what you say is like one speaking from higher than a professor and someone speaking from kindergarten. So which one you have to listen to? The one who is the kindergarten teacher. Might be has pampers also. So he is teacher for children too much headache, he reflects his pampers to their pampers and he has bigger pampers.

So awliyaullah as described in holy Qur’an,

Behold! verily on the friends of Allah there is no fear, nor shall they grieve; [10:62]

So which one we have to listen? To listen to them or to listen to us? We have to listen to them is it not.

So that is why, Grandshaykh before he left, he said, “Whenever you want to address people open my notes and read from it and explain. That is as if you are throwing a stone and hitting two birds. With one stone you hit two birds. First you hit your own bird, that means your arrogance and your ego, and then you hit those who are listening to hear what Grandshaykh said or what Mawlana Shaykh said. By this way it will take away the arrogance that comes to your heart thinking you speak from your own information that comes, knowledge. Or as if “O I am getting from the heart of my shaykh to you directly.” That is a sickness as we want to show to people we are the shaykh and we are the calipha. And we are falling into this category and that is why I am repeating it many times. I feel we are all like that. So better no, open and read one line, they open to you at that time. But it shows they don’t open if you are not reading from what they are saying to you to show them humility and to show I am knocking at your door, “O Mawlana, O my shaykh. I am knocking at your door.

So people when they see you looking on a notebook of Grandshaykh lecture may Allah bless his soul, or they look at notebook of Mawlana Shaykh lecture. They say, “O they are the same. And your ego you will be hitting it not with a bullet but with a cannon. And hitting it in the target’s center the weak point. That will bring the ego down.

I am not saying form myself, I am saying from Grandshaykh. That is what it says, open and read. So I am telling many people today, take from Grandshaykh books or from Mawlana’s books or whatever books are available that can take from their secrets and give a taste to give to you, like my books or Shaykh Adnan’s books that explain to you from their teaching.

So your taste is like the bakery where they have all these nice sweets and he is new chef, he puts salt in it instead of sugar. You never drank coffee with salt or tea? Did you ever drank something like that? By chance many times. People make the mistake between salt and sugar. So adab what you have to do? If it is salty you drink it and say, masha-Allah it is the best tea. It is bad adab to say this is salty. What do we do usually. We humiliate the owner of the house and say, “this is salty.” The owner of the house gets humiliated. If it is salty it is because you are salty. They sent it to you to know that you are like that.

Say, “O that is the best tea, how you did it”? Then owner of the house will not realize he made mistake. No, why to show that and make him upset. No “bismillahi.” [and drink]

Everything tasteful or not, it fills the stomach, it doesn’t mean anything any more – it is gone.

So that is why it is important to open Grandshaykh’s notes or Mawlana Shaykh’s notes and read one line and explain.

That is why he said, “The head of every lecture is as we said yesterday, Audhu billah min ash-Shaytan ir-rajeem Bismillahi ‘r-Rahmani ‘r-Raheem Ati` Allah wa ati` ar-rasula wa uli ‘l-amri minkum.

The head of every `amal is Audhu billah min ash-Shaytan ir-rajeem Bismillahi ‘r-Rahmani ‘r-Raheem .

The head of every advice is Ati` Allah wa ati` ar-rasula wa uli ‘l-amri minkum.

Because the amal, why is it Audhu billah min ash-Shaytan ir-rajeem Bismillahi ‘r-Rahmani ‘r-Raheem because already you heard the advice and you want to execute it to obedience so amal comes so already you are in obedience. So what you need to say? Audhu billah min ash-Shaytan ir-rajeem Bismillahi ‘r-Rahmani ‘r-Raheem

But in the advice you are still at the point where you might do the `amal or not. It is advice.

So advice starts with “Obey Allah, obey the Prophet and those in authority among you.”

Then when that moves in side your heart what happens the pot when it is boiling what happens, the top begins to shake. So when your heart begins to shake to do good `amal what happens. You begin to the work. So you say Audhu billah min ash-Shaytan ir-rajeem Bismillahi ‘r-Rahmani ‘r-Raheem.

So what is in that? All ma’mooraat and all manhiyat. All that all ordered us to do and all that Allah has forbidden is in that word: Ati` Allah wa ati` ar-rasula wa uli ‘l-amri minkum.

There are 500 commands and 800 forbiddens and they are all in these 9 words, Ati` Allah wa ati` ar-rasula wa uli ‘l-amri minkum.

And obey those who are in authority. As they are top of you they teach you obedience of Allah and of prophet. When that enters in your heat you will be called real immigrant. Real immigrant is not when one moves from one country to anther. Real immigrant is when you move from listening to Shaytan to listening to Allah and his prophet. That is al-muhajir al-haqiqi. The muhajir from falsehood to truth. From injustice to justice. From love of self to love of Allah and His Prophet.

So that is the real immigrant.

Let us ask ourselves are we immigrants or not yet? We are struggling to be immigrants. Your presence here from everywhere is a sign of immigration. You are asking asylum now. Why they ask asylum. Because they don’t want to be slaughtered or killed in their countries. The come to another country and ask asylum. You don’t want your self to be killed or slaughtered by Shaytan and we are coming asking asylum from Allah and his prophet. We are putting our paper and our petition to ask them to come to their territory to their presence. So you have already tried to find a shelter that takes them inside and save them from the tyranny of leadership of Shaytan. Because our hearts in our heart there is the leadership of Shaytan that is trying to take over. We are coming from every direction and that is why don’t think you are not rewarded for it. You are rewarded for it. You are blessed fro it. People coming from here and people coming from there not coming for any reward. Only asking for asylum ticket.

When you get that then you will be a resident. You will be resident in Allah hospitality and prophet’s hospitality. Do you want that hospital? Yes!

Or you want to be in hospitality of Shaytan.

Os that is a sign we are in. that is the real immigrant. That is the real explanation of an immigrant that left the leadership of Shaytan and realized there is no safety and no safe have except to be in the presence of Allah and his prophet. So we are saying, Ya rabbee give us a foot inside.

That is why he said in holy hadith that he revealed to prophet and prophet revealed to us. If My servant comes to me one hand I come to him one arm. I come to him longer distance. Who comes to me walking I come to him running. So only come to him walking Allah comes to you running.

He didn’t say how fast to go, per hour. Allah doesn’t need “per hour”. Kun fayakoon. In one instant you will be there. But you have to be show … so the most dangerous is not the sheep it is the shepherd. So don’t try to be a shepherd. We are sheep and Mawlana is the shepherd. He is responsible. When they ask us, what are we going to say?

When Sayyidina Abdul Qadir Jilani’s Qaddasallahu Sirrahu mureed passed away and they took his soul the two angels come to ask him in the grave: “Who is your Lord?” “Sayyidina Abdul Qadir Jilani Qaddasallahu Sirrahu.” “Who is your messenger?” “Sayyidina Abdul Qadir Jilani Qaddasallahu Sirrahu.” “Who is your book?” “Sayyidina Abdul Qadir Jilani Qaddasallahu Sirrahu.” “What is your religion?” “Sayyidina Abdul Qadir Jilani Qaddasallahu Sirrahu.” Said, “, “What is that, that is kufr? That is not accepted Islamically. Take him to hell. That person is top of the list: mushrik, kafir take him to hell!”

As soon as they decided that Sayyidina Abdul Qadir Jilani Qaddasallahu Sirrahu appeared. He said, “when you asked him ‘who is your Lord?’ he said, ‘Abdul Qadir Jilani Qaddasallahu Sirrahu.’ And if you grind him to pieces he will say Abdul Qadir Jilani Qaddasallahu Sirrahu. You have to ask me. He is a lover in my tariqah, so you must ask me.” And Allah said to the angels, “leave him. That person is migrating to Allah and His Prophet (s).” He didn’t see he is on the road to reach there.

When Sayyidina `Ali’s son and Sayyidina `Umar’s son were fighting with each other one time. They were saying, “O my father is better than your father.” That is nice argument. Because everyone argues. Even from Sahaba. So Sayyidina `Umar (r) had died by then. And that story came to Sayyidina `Ali (r). And he called them and said, “Ankar and Nakeer has one eye missing. He has one eye and the other eye is gone. Why?”

He is telling them the power of Sayyidina `Umar (r), that when Sayyidina `Umar (r) left this dunya, that is why it is important. We don’t know what we will answer at that time. So what to do? Do like Sayyida Rabi`a: Repent istaghfirullah. Don’t say “I am a shaykh, I am a shaykh. I am a mureed.” No say, “I am garbage!” Say, “I am a dump.” Then what happens. He is a dump, he is garbage. People will leave you, they won’t ask you anything.

Better than to say, “I am a shaykh.” Then they will ask all kinds of question and they will find all kinds of details.

They tell you don’t go in that minefield because there are a lot of mines there. And we have all kinds of minds in ourselves and we don’t have the plan that where are those minds.

So it is better to be a dump and to be dumb. Deaf, blind dumb. We don’t hear and we don’t see. And we don’t talk also.

So the two angels came to Sayyidina `Umar (r) after everyone left and they asked him in his holy grave: “Who is your Lord? Who is your book? Who is your prophet? What is your religion?” He said, “I am not hearing, can you approach?” How he is not hearing? So they approached him. So they asked him another time? “Who is your Lord? Who is your book? Who is your prophet? What is your religion?” He said another time, “I am not hearing approach.”

Said, “Ok. Who is your Lord?” He said, “I am hearing.” “Who is your book?” “I am hearing.” “Who is your prophet?” “I am hearing.” “What is your religion.” “I am hearing.”

Then he said, “I am hearing. Before I answer, can I ask one question?” They said, “why not?” He said, “From how far are you coming?” They said, “We are coming from the heavens that is a huge long distance.” And he looked at them and he punched them. He said, “You are coming from such a long distance and you don’t know who is your Lord and who is your prophet, and I am coming from five minutes distance and you are asking me? I am just coming from the presence of the Prophet (s).”

So that time the son of Sayyidina `Ali (r) said, “I accept. Your father was greater.”

So that is why you see one of them has one eye is missing. And Grandshaykh said, “When you die and they come to you, you will see one has an eye missing. Remind him at that time of the incident with Sayyidina `Umar (r).”

Wa min Allah at-tawfeeq bi-hurmati ‘l-Fatiha.
